LIONS TAKE CIF-SS OPEN DIVISION CROWN

The JSerra Boys Soccer team is back on top of the CIF-SS mountain, as the Lions defeated Loyola High of Los Angeles 2-0 in the CIF-SS Open Division Championship match at Fred Kelley Stadium in Orange.

JSerra wins the third CIF-SS title in program history.

The Lions also won CIF-SS titles in 2010 and 2023.

After a scoreless first half, the Lions relentless attacking pressure overwhelmed the Cubs in the second half.

Senior Gavin Allegaert put the Lions ahead 1-0 in the 50th minute.

Allegaert located a long ball sent down the field by senior Brody Martinez, and when both a Loyola defender and the goalie misplayed the bounce, he tapped the ball into open space and uncorked a shot that sailed into the upper far post corner of the goal.

Senior goalkeeper Liam Johnston helped maintain the lead in the 57th minute, when he produced a fantastic kick save to thwart a breakaway chance for the Cubs to tie the match.

For the second week in a row, freshman Finn Wilkins came through in a big moment, this time to help put the match away for the Lions.

Off a throw in by senior Kaden Kirsch in the 69th minute, senior Jake Tatch sent a well-placed cross from the corner that twisted just past the far post, where Wilkins tracked the ball on a sprint toward the goal and headed a shot into the back of the net.
