LIONS SET FOCUS ON TRINITY LEAGUE TITLE
A coveted Trinity League title is well within the grasp of the JSerra Girls Soccer team as they kickoff the second half of league play in first place.
The Lions seized their grip on first place by completing the first half of league without a loss.
After opening with a thrilling 2-1 road triumph over Orange Lutheran, the Lions slipped past the visiting Mater Dei Monarchs 1-0.
Senior Sydney Schuler had the decisive boot of the contest in the first half, as she successfully converted a penalty kick after sophomore G.G. Szczuka was fouled in the box.
JSerra tangled with the Santa Margarita Eagles in a highly anticipated showdown of the top two teams in Orange County last Tuesday at Santa Margarita Catholic High School.
The Eagles seized the lead with a goal in the first two minutes of the match, but seven first half saves from senior Daphne Nakfoor prevented any further scoring.
Szczuka came through in the clutch for the Lions in the 42nd minute, as she received a crossing header from sophomore Maddyn Baziak and booted the ball into the back of the net for the match-equalizing goal as the two teams played to a 1-1 draw.
Nakfoor finished the match with 10 saves.
JSerra opens the second half of Trinity League on Tuesday with a home match against Orange Lutheran.
Kickoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
