LIONS READY FOR SHOT AT HISTORICAL TRINITY LEAGUE TITLE


The JSerra Boys Basketball team has its’ eyes set on history, as the team looks to the final three games of Trinity League action to try and capture the first league title in school history.

The Lions enter the penultimate week of the regular season with five victories in seven league games and are currently a half-game out of first place behind Mater Dei and St. John Bosco.

JSerra started its’ current streak of three wins in their last four games by defeating Mater Dei 60-52.

The win marked the third straight victory for the Lions over the Monarchs after defeating the perennial powerhouse for the first time in school history last year.

Senior B.J. Davis-Ray scored a team-high 20 points, with junior Brannon Martinsen adding 15 points.

Freshman Ryan Doane was huge down the stretch, scoring eight points in the fourth quarter, and finishing with a double-double (11 points and 12 rebounds).

JSerra clashed next with St. John Bosco in a tight encounter, ultimately coming up two points short in a 64-62 loss.

Senior Jarne Eyenga tallied a team-high 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Davis-Ray scored 18 points and Martinsen tallied 12 points.

The Lions dominated the action in their next two games, starting with an 85-21 road thumping of Servite.

Davis-Ray outscored the Friars by himself with 24 points, while senior Dominic Bolton connected on six three-pointers and scored 18 points.

JSerra defeated Orange Lutheran for the second time in league play, posting a 70-42 home victory.

Davis-Ray produced a double-double (23 points and 10 rebounds), while Martinsen added 13 points and seven rebounds.

JSerra begins the final stretch of league play on Wednesday, when they travel to Mater Dei to face off against the Monarchs.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
