LIONS ENJOY STRONG SHOWING AT SILVERLAKES WINTER CLASSIC
The JSerra Girls Soccer team put forth a stellar performance over the winter holiday break at the Silverlakes Winter Classic at Silverlakes Sports Complex in Norco.
The Lions began play in Group B of the Orange Division with a 5-0 victory over the Ayala Bulldogs, as senior Sydney Schuler tallied two goals, while sophomore Bria Johnson, freshman Kaylee Hanna, and junior Shay Goddard also found the back of the net.
JSerra closed out Group B action with another dominate performance, as the Lions blanked Redlands East Valley 7-0.
Hanna recorded the first hat trick of her high school career, while Johnson scored two goals.
Schuler and freshman Isabella Petroni also added goals in the win.
Hanna provided more theatrics in the Orange Division semifinals against Chino Hills, as she scored the match-winner with five minutes remaining to propel the Lions to a 1-0 victory over the Huskies.
JSerra squared off against Roosevelt for the Orange Division title and the two teams battled in a hotly contested showdown.
The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the 58th minute, but the Lions tied the contest at 1-1 in the 64th minute.
Junior Raegan Kubisch floated a free kick into the box that was knocked around before Schuler tracked the ball down and booted a shot into the back of the net.
Roosevelt countered two minutes later with a successful penalty kick to recapture a one-goal advantage.
JSerra swarmed the attacking third in the final moments of the match and earned multiple corner kick opportunities, but the Mustangs thwarted the Lions’ final scoring chances and held on for the 2-1 win.
The Lions, who are now 7-4-1 on the season, finished the tournament outscoring their opposition by a cumulative score of 14-2.
