LIONS BUILD MOMENTUM WITH ROAD VICTORIES


The JSerra Girls Lacrosse team “road” a trio of big performances into the win column.

The Lions kicked off a busy week on the field with a 16-10 nonleague triumph over the Northwood Timberwolves at Northwood High School in Irvine.

Junior Kate Berkus had a team-high six goals and added three assists.

Sophomore Viv Devir and senior Lily Peguero each had three goals.

Senior Seylah Childress, senior Evie Devir, junior Hannah Quinn, and sophomore Dylan Sakayan each added a goal.

Senior Mary O’Hara recorded a team-leading five assists.

JSerra made it back-to-back road wins on Thursday, as the Lions doubled up the Chaparral Pumas by a score of 16-8.

The Lions, who defeated the Pumas in last year’s CIF-SS Division 2 semifinals en route to winning their first ever CIF-SS title, were led by Berkus and Peguero who each scored a team-high five goals.

Berkus also recorded a team-best four assists.

Sophomore Viv Devir added three goals.

Senior Evie Devir, Quinn, and Sakayan each added a goal.

The road surge continued on Saturday, as the Lions overwhelmed the Los Alamitos Griffins, 14-2, in a nonleague affair at Los Alamitos High School.

JSerra put the game out of reach in the first half, scoring eight of the game’s first nine goals.

Berkus continued her goal-scoring hot streak, tallying a team-high six goals.

She has now scored five or more goals in every Lions’ victory this season.

O’Hara added three goals.

Senior Evie Devir and sophomore Viv Devir each tallied two goals, while Sakayan also found the back of the net for a goal.

Sophomore Ava Pearl and freshman Natalie Ng each recorded two saves in the game.

JSerra is now 6-2 on the season.
