BUSY STRETCH STARTS IN WINNING FORM FOR LIONS

An important stretch of games for the JSerra Boys Lacrosse team got off to a winning start last week.
The Lions began a stretch of six games in the next 14 days by dispatching Snow Canyon High of Utah 18-6 in a nonleague contest at JSerra Catholic High School.
Junior Gavin Goodrich scored two goals in the first quarter to give JSerra a 2-0 lead.
The Lions put the game away over the next two periods, outscoring the Warriors 14-5.
Goodrich finished tied with senior Gabe Seldow with a team-high four goals.
Junior Asher Stevenson added three goals.
Freshmen Luca Amaya and Cameron Hill each scored two goals apiece.
Juniors Luke Bittner, Alejandro Villamizar, and Mason Stephens each contributed a goal.
Stephens led the Lions with five assists.
Senior Jack Pearl recorded 14 saves.
JSerra followed up the win over the Warriors with a dominant 17-4 triumph over the Poway Titans in a nonleague contest on Saturday at Poway High School.
The Titans scored the first goal of the game at the 7:33 mark of the first period, but JSerra seized definitive control of the game shortly after.
Stevenson, Stephens, and Goodrich each scored in a 5:16 stretch of the first period to catapult the Lions into a 3-1 lead at the end of the opening period.
Stevenson added two more goals in the second period, which also featured scoring strikes from Goodrich, Seldow, and Bittner, as the Lions assumed an 8-1 lead at halftime.
The Lions attack continued to yield goals in the second half.
Stevenson tallied his fourth goal early in the third period, Goodrich scored three times (off assists from Hill, Stevenson, and Stephens) in a 2:41 span, and Amaya added a goal to give JSerra a 13-3 after three periods.
Stevenson capped his six-goal performance with two goals in the fourth period, while Goodrich also added his sixth goal of the game in the period.
Senior Justin Frericks also scored in the final period.
Stevenson and Stevens finished with a team-high four assists apiece.
JSerra improves to 5-4 on the season and will host Lakewood High School of Colorado on Tuesday.
That game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
