
LIONS ENJOY STRONG HOME COURT WINS
The JSerra Boys Volleyball team continued its winning surge with two impressive home court victories.
The Lions picked up a big nonleague triumph on Wednesday by sweeping the visiting St. Margaret’s Tartans 25-23, 25-19, 25-20 at JSerra Catholic High School.
The Lions forged a 20-14 lead in opening set, and though the Tartans answered with six straight points to tie, JSerra won five of the final eight set points to take a 1-0 lead.
JSerra jumped out to 10-3 lead in the second set and a kill from sophomore Will Spalding brought home a six-point set win.
The two teams battled down the stretch in the final set, but the Lions closed out the five-point win and the match.
JSerra capped the week on Friday by sweeping the visiting Aliso Niguel Wolverines 25-23, 25-16, 25-20 in a nonleague contest.
The two teams were tied at 20-20 in the first set, before the Lions claimed five of the next eight points to take a 1-0 lead.
JSerra fell behind 4-0 early in the second set, but ran off seven straight points to surge into a lead they would carry to a nine-point set win.
With senior Michael Nadruz serving with a one-point Lions’ lead early in the third set, JSerra pushed the advantage to five points, the final point of the run coming on Nadruz’s lone ace of the match.
Aliso Niguel closed to within 22-19 later in the set, but the Lions won three of the next four points to take the match victory.
Senior Kieran Dumain led the Lions with 16 kills, while sophomore Will Spalding added 10 kills and a team-best two aces.
Nadruz produced a team-high 35 assists.
JSerra, which has won three straight home matches, is now 11-2 on the season.
