
LIONS DOMINATE DANA HILLS IN HOME OPENER
The JSerra Softball team enjoyed a victorious home opener, as the Lions shutdown the Dana Hills Dolphins 6-0 in a nonleague contest at JSerra Catholic High School.
The win improves the Lions’ record to 5-1 on the season.
JSerra jumped out into the lead in the bottom of the second inning.
Sophomore Brooklyn Lamb was hit by a pitch and scored the first run of the game when junior Zena Edwards laced an RBI triple to center field.
Senior Lauren Gaitley increased the lead to 2-0 with an RBI sacrifice fly center field that scored Edwards.
Edwards added to the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, when she smashed an RBI double off the wall in left center field that scored sophomore Angie Jimenez, who singled to start the inning.
The Lions added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Freshman Melia Munoz, who went 2-for-3, added an RBI triple to right field that scored junior Emily Zora, who led off the inning with a single.
Jimenez, who also went 2-for-3 , added an RBI single that scored Munoz.
Lamb capped the rally with an RBI double down the left field line that scored freshman Ava Van Heerde who pitch ran for Jimenez.
The run support proved to be more than enough for junior Liliana Escobar, who continued her dominance in the circle to start the season.
Escobar pitched six innings, allowing only two hits, while striking out 12.
She has now struck out 49 batters in 25 innings pitched.
