LIONS SHOW IMPRESSIVE FORM TO START SEASON

The JSerra Boys Tennis team has picked up where they left off during their undefeated championship season a year ago.

The Lions kicked off the season with a 15-3 nonleague victory over the Dana Hills Dolphins at JSerra Catholic High School.

The Lions season-opening triumph was fueled by winning eight of their nine singles matches.

Sophomore Riley Anson (6-4, 6-0, 6-0) and senior Brady Schaefgen (7-5, 6-1, 6-1) produced sweeps, while sophomore Michael Geffre posted wins of 6-4 and 6-2.

The duos of junior Connor Faul and senior Charlie Vogel (6-1, 6-1), junior Cade Faul and freshman Raphael Shaikh (6-2, 6-1), and senior Hudson Aase and junior Emilio Salgado (6-3, 7-6) each won two doubles sets.

Sophomores Enzo Biundo and Kayden Kral won their doubles set with a 6-2 win.

The Lions took to the road in their second match, knocking off the Foothill Knights 14-4 at Foothill High School.

JSerra produced seven victories in both singles and doubles competitions.

Anson (6-1, 6-4, 6-0) and Schaefgen (7-5, 6-4, 6-2) produced sweeps in their singles battles, with Kral adding a 6-3 set win.

Junior Connor Faul and senior Charlie Vogel (6-4, 6-3, 6-1) and junior Cade Faul and freshman Rafael Shaikh (6-2, 6-1, 6-1) produced clean sweeps in their doubles action.

Biundo and Salgado added a set triumph of 6-3 in their lone set of action.

The Lions took down Tesoro 15-3 for their third straight win.

Schaefgen (6-1, 6-0, 6-0), Geffre (6-1, 6-1, 6-0), and Kral (6-4, 6-3) propelled a sweep of singles action.

Aase and Salgado spearheaded the Lions’ effort in doubles competition, as the duo swept three sets by scores of 6-1,6-1, and 6-3.

Junior Cade Faul and Shaikh (7-6, 6-2) posted two doubles set wins.

JSerra improved to 4-0 with a hard-earned 11-7 triumph over Los Osos in a rematch of last year’s CIF-SS Division 1 quarterfinals.

The two teams were tied after the first round of competitions, but the Lions won eight of the next 12 sets.

Anson (6-2, 6-0, 6-0) and Schaefgen (6-2, 6-0, 6-1) continued their strong play to start the season with concurrent singles sweeps.

Junior Cade Faul added two additional set triumphs in singles competition with 6-2 and 6-1 wins.

Geffre and Shaikh claimed two of the team’s three doubles sets, with victories of 6-3 and 6-1.
