FIRST HALF SCORING BLITZ PROPELS LIONS PAST CATHEDRAL
The JSerra Boys Soccer team capped an undefeated nonleague run with a 5-2 triumph over the Cathedral Phantoms on Friday at JSerra Catholic High School.
JSerra improves to 3-0 on the season.
The Lions offense was hot from the opening kickoff and propelled them into the lead in the third minute.
On a run down the left sideline, senior Jake Tatch floated a perfectly placed cross to the far post, where senior Miles Burton headed a shot into the near post corner of the goal.
Tatch was on the scoring end for the second goal of the match in the ninth minute, as he beat a Phantom’s defender on a run toward the goal and placed a shot that rolled to right of the Phantom’s goalie and into the corner of the goal.
Senior Gavin Allegaert notched the Lions’ third goal of the half in the 19th minute, chipping a shot over the Phantom’s goalie and into the back of the net.
Tatch capped JSerra’s first half scoring blitz in the 23rd minute, as he darted down the left sideline and tapped an open shot past the Phantoms goalie.
Cathedral made it a two-goal deficit on a penalty kick early in the second half, but sophomore Aquiles Rodriguez added the final goal of the match in the 62nd minute on Tatch’s second assist.
Senior Brody Martinez also added two assists, while fellow senior Tanner Casey recorded an assist.
