LIONS ADVANCE BACK TO TORREY PINES TITLE GAME: The @jserrahoops Boys Basketball team will seek back-to-back National Division titles at the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic, as the Lions defeated Mission Bay High School 63-50 on Monday at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego.
JSerra, which has won seven straight games, is now 13-5 overall and will take on Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks in the title clash on Tuesday.
Senior Jaden Bailes scored eight points in the first quarter to help the Lions build an eight point lead.
JSerra used a 7-0 spurt late in the second quarter, punctuated on a three-pointer by senior Hunter Frates, to establish a 33-21 halftime lead.
The Lions maintained a double-digit advantage heading into the fourth quarter and a 7-0 burst in the opening 1:50 of the final quarter pushed the lead to 18 points and helped seal JSerra’s trip back to the tournament title game.
Bailes finished with 14 points and five assists for the Lions.
Cunningham connected on six of his eight shots from the field and also scored 14 points.
Senior Hunter Frates hit three three-pointers and scored nine points.
Junior Earl Bryson finished with eight points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Sophomore Isaiah Hill produced eight points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, while fellow sophomore Ryan Doane scored eight points and collected six rebounds.
The Lions held Mission Bay to 36 percent shooting from the field and out-rebounded the Buccaneers 33-19.
